Elmira, NY (December 4, 2018) - The Joint Apprenticeship Committee for Roofers Local Union #203, Elmira Area II, will conduct a recruitment from December 17, 2018 through December 16, 2019 for four roofer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Roofers# 203 Elmira, 800 Canal Street, Elmira, NY from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications must be completed and mailed to Roofers JAC Local Union #203, 32 West State Street, Binghamton, NY 13901.

The Committee requires that applicants:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must sign a statement indicating that they are physically able to perform the work of the trade, which may include:
  • Working with sharp objects, hazardous machinery, and possible exposure to loud noises and respiratory irritants.
  • Prolonged standing and walking.
  • Repetitive squatting and bending.
  • Working in extreme temperatures and severe weather conditions.
  • Lifting and moving heavy objects and equipment.
  • Working off of ladders and scaffolds at extreme heights.
• Must have reliable means of transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction.
• Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.
