New Tenants to Transform Metro-North’s Bronxville Station House

Tenants to Bring New Café, Lounge, Beauty Salon, as Well as Station House Improvements, to Customers and Community

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority today announced that Metro-North Railroad’s Bronxville Station building will be reimagined, becoming a more vibrant, welcoming place with amenities for customers and residents alike.

After soliciting proposals for two sections of the station building, the MTA Board voted to approve a lease to Xarupa LLC to turn the station’s interior space into a café and a lounge/bar. The Board approved the lease for the second, smaller section at the southwest end of the building to The Coiffure Clique LLC to operate a hair salon in the space. The station building currently houses only a small concession  stand and ticket booth.

Xarupa LLC will transform the entire 2,595 square-foot interior of the building, including the waiting area and restrooms, into an inviting morning café and coffee spot, and the vacant unit at the north end of the station building will become a cozy evening bar and lounge.

Commuters and residents can look forward to grabbing a quality cup of coffee while on the go at the station, or sitting down at the café for a more relaxed morning meal. Xarupa will enhance and improve waiting room amenities, including: creating a new seating area, upgrading bathrooms, painting the interior, and installing new fixtures.

The bar/lounge, occupying the 819 square-foot interior section at the north end of the station house, will be open during evening hours, offering a range of wine, beer and cocktail options, and a cozy, convenient spot to unwind and connect with friends.

The Coiffure Clique will assume the lease for the 239-square foot retail space at the southwest end of the building, accessible by a separate entrance at the station.  Carmine Gargano, the owner of The Coiffure Clique, has been a hair stylist for 25 years and has developed a substantial clientele.  His plan is to provide high quality hair styling, blowouts and hair coloring, and to offer midrange retail products for sale. As part of the lease agreement, The Coiffure Clique will upgrade the restroom, and install laminate flooring and custom shelving within its space.

“Every week, about 9,500 customers use the Bronxville station, generating over 19,000 rides,” said Catherine Rinaldi, President of Metro-North Railroad.  “Bringing new tenants to the Bronxville station house will not only improve the commute for these customers, but will also help enhance the community’s quality of life.  I’m delighted that Bronxville customers can look forward to a more welcoming station house that offers a comfortable spot to grab a bite or a cup of coffee, wait for a train, meet up with family and friends, and even get a make-over.”

The MTA Real Estate Department has recently offered another leasing opportunity at the Rye station and anticipates submitting terms for this transaction to the MTA Board in the coming months.

The MTA Real Estate Department leases retail spaces throughout its service area.  Retail opportunities in the MTA system range from full service restaurants, to newsstands and cafés.  The Real Estate Department also leases and licenses parking lots and industrial spaces within its territory.  This comprehensive, successful program includes lease holders at the following Metro-North stations:
