Holiday Fun for the Entire Family at Whiteface Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- There’s plenty of snow on the ground and Whiteface Lake Placid, N.Y. is gearing up for the holidays with fun and activities for the entire family.

On Friday, Dec. 29, celebrate the New Year Lake Placid style. Watch the high-flying action as ski jumpers launch themselves from the top of the 90, 48, and 20-meter ski jumps and soar the length of a football field to the ground below. The action begins at 6 p.m.; followed by a fireworks display at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online for just $12 for adults and $6 for juniors and seniors. Ticket prices at the gate are $16 for adults and $10 for juniors and seniors.

Then on Saturday night, Olympic champion Kristi Yamaguchi and Olympic silver medalist Paul Wylie grace the Olympic Center ice and celebrate the 25th anniversary of their Stars on Ice debut during a special one-night only, Stars on Ice Legends ice skating show.

The 7:30 p.m. celebration also includes 2014 Olympic ice dance gold medalists Meryl Davis and Charlie White, ladies World champions Kimmie Meissner and Yuka Sato, 1996 World champion and four-time U.S. men’s champion Todd Eldredge, four-time U.S. men’s champion Jeremy Abbott, 2011 U.S. men’s national champion Ryan Bradley and 2008 U.S. Championship ice dancing bronze medalists Kim Navarro and Brent Bommentre.

Tickets start at $25 and are available through www.WhitefaceLakePlacid.com, by phone at 518-523-3330 and at the Olympic Center Box Office. Group discounts are available for parties of 10 or more.  Please visit www.starsonice.com for more information.

Before all of the evening family fun, take the entire family skiing and snowboarding at Whiteface Mountain, in Wilmington, N.Y. Snowmaking continues on the summit trails, the Follies and Paron’s Run.

Lake Placid’s Olympic speed skating oval also opened in time for the holidays. Bring your own or rent skates and glide on the same oval where Olympic legends were made to include 1932 two-time Olympic gold medalist Jack Shea and five-time 1980 Olympic speed skating champion Eric Heiden. If you get chilly, cozy up and warm up around the fire pit in the center of the oval.
