Wounded Warriors Tackle Lake Placid Sliding Track

LAKE PLACID, N.Y.) March 3, 2015 --- As many as 10 combat wounded veterans are experiencing the sports of bobsled and skeleton as they participate in an adaptive athlete sliding camp being held Tuesday through Friday, March 3-6, at the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex track in Lake Placid, N.Y.  The program is designed to introduce these athletes to the sports of bobsled and skeleton, while at the same time assist in the development of USA Bobsled and Skeleton’s adaptive athlete program.


WHO:
Ten wounded warrior athletes to include Bergan Flannigan (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) and Jason Sturm, the reigning Mono Bobsled World Champion. Sturm won the World title this past February while competing in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

WHAT: An adaptive bobsled and skeleton camp, organized through the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA), USA Bobsled and Skeleton, and the Adaptive Sports Foundation, through a grant administered through Veteran Affairs.

The Adaptive Sports Foundation (ASF) is a non-profit organization that provides profound and life changing experiences for children and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities and chronic illnesses through outdoor physical activity, education, support and community.

WHERE: The Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex Track, in Lake Placid, N.Y.

WHEN: Sliding will be held on the combined bobsled/luge/skeleton track Tuesday through Friday, March 3-6, from 10 a.m.-noon, daily.
