DEC Announces Reopening of Lake George Beach

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will reopen Lake George (AKA Million Dollar) Beach on Sunday, June 11, after test results showed that the beach is safe for swimming.

Test results from samples collected on Friday show decreased levels of E. coli below the Department of Health (DOH) sanitary threshold.

DEC is investigating a variety of potential sources of the recent contamination. Recent excessive rains may have contributed to the presence of E. Coli this week. DEC's investigation includes extensive sampling to track down potential sources of bacteria, and the agency will be working with state and local officials as necessary to quickly implement actions to identify and terminate any continuing pathogen contamination.Sampling will be conducting on a daily basis to ensure the safety of the swimming area.

The beach is currently scheduled to be open for swimming on Sunday only, and closed during the week. Beginning Saturday, June 17, the beach is scheduled to open to swimming seven days a week through Labor Day.

Additional information and updates will be ‎shared with the public as they become available on DEC’s website.
