Metro-North Offers Scenic Cruise and Rail Discount Packages

Experience the Region’s Scenic Grandeur, History and Wildlife


Let Metro-North help you get some relief from the steamy, summer months on a scenic cruise. No need to pack a suitcase or carve out a lot of vacation time; Metro-North has easy picturesque day trip cruises along the Hudson River or from Norwalk Seaport. Cruise adventures are within reach from Metro-North stations, and rail and sail packages can be purchased right before you hop on the train.  Experience majestic landscapes, historic sites dating to the Revolutionary War, spot birds that nest along the water, and sink your toes into the sand as you search for shells on the beach.  

Don’t let summer slip away without taking a well-deserved break, and it’s just a safe, convenient train ride away on Metro-North.
 
Bannerman’s Island Cruise: Saturdays and Sundays, through October 28. Tour departs at 12:30 p.m.
The experience
Come aboard the Estuary Steward for a scenic cruise along the Hudson during which you will learn all about Bannerman’s Island and its history.  The 30-minute ride will take you from the ferry dock at Beacon Station to Bannerman’s Island, where you’ll receive a guided tour of the island’s mysteries and mystique. (Please note: for safety reasons, entrance to the castle is prohibited.) Tours depart from the dock, rain or shine, at 12:30 p.m.  There is a 72-step climb from the dock to the start of the tour and some rough terrain on the island, so wear comfortable shoes (there is a rest stop along the way). Strollers cannot be accommodated.

Customers must call Neil Caplan at 845-831-6346 to confirm reservation date and give a phone contact.  A credit card is required to hold your tour reservation. Seats are limited. Tours frequently sell out so please call at least 48 hours in advance. Once you confirm your dates, purchase your package from any Metro-North ticket office or full-service ticket vending machine (excluding Beacon Station). If you wish to cancel, you must call Neil Caplan at 845-831-6346 by Wednesday the latest (EST) the week of your tour, otherwise a $30 per person fee will be charged to your card if you do not show up for the tour. 
 
The deal:
  • Package price from Grand Central Terminal/Harlem-125th Street: Adults, $57.50; seniors, persons with disabilities and individuals receiving Medicare, $52; children 5-11, $32; children under 5, $30.
  • Package price from other stations: Check online for price from your boarding station.
Purchase your rail/admission ticket from any Metro-North ticket office, full-service ticket vending machine (excluding Beacon Station).
 
Getting there:
Take the Hudson Line to Beacon Station. Meet for your tour at the Beacon Institute Dock (first dock down to waterfront on the left).  Dock is just south of the Metro North Dock across from the train station.
 
 
Hudson River Cruise on the Evening Star: Thursdays – Sundays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., through
Oct. 28
The experience:
Just under an hour train ride from Manhattan to Peekskill, but a world away as you arrive at the Gateway to the Hudson Highlands. Board the 'Evening Star' in Riverfront Green Park for a 3-hour cruise through one of the most beautiful section of the Hudson River. The natural beauty and history of the area will captivate you as you cruise along aboard the canopy covered open deck of this former USCG buoy tender.
 
This unique and comfortable 34 passenger vessel will cruise north from Peekskill passing Dunderberg Mountain, Iona Island, the towering Bear Mountain Bridge, the sites of Revolutionary War forts and the impressive fortifications of West Point Military Academy. Beverages & snacks are available onboard. Pack a picnic lunch to bring along if you'd like or enjoy the many great restaurants in Peekskill when the boat returns. There are local accommodations close by if you would like to stay overnight. Lincoln Depot Museum, Peekskill Brewery and Scenic Hudson's Peekskill Landing Park are all within a 5 minute walk from the dock.

Getting there:
Take the Hudson Line to Peekskill Station. Riverfront Green Park and the boat are within view of the Peekskill train station platform. Just cross over the track overpass to the water side of the tracks and follow signs to the boat.
 

Sheffield Island Lighthouse Tour: through September 23, (excluding September 7, 8 & 9)
Saturdays and Sundays: 11 a.m., 2 p.m. & 3:30 p.m. Additional hours for July 4 – Labor Day:
Monday, Thursday and Friday: 11 a.m., and 3 p.m., Tuesday & Wednesday: 11 a.m.
 
The experience:
Sheffield Island, with its historic lighthouse, beaches, and wildlife refuge, offers abundant summer fun for visitors. Board the 45-foot CJ Toth Quest ferry for a cruise to the island. Then tour the lighthouse, observe wildlife in their natural habitat, hunt for shells along the beach, dine on a picnic lunch, play on the lawns around the lighthouse, and just have a good time. The lighthouse grounds provide magnificent views of Long Island Sound and, on a clear day, of the New York City skyline.
