MTA to Perform Maintenance, Repair and Replacement Work on Sixth Avenue Line as Part of FASTRACK Program

Changes to dF Subway Subway Service Between in Manhattan and Brooklyn for Two Weekends in May  

Alternate Service and Free Shuttle Buses Will Be Provided
 

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced maintenance, cleaning, repair and replacement work will be performed along the Sixth Avenue dF Subway line in Manhattan on weeknights beginning Monday, May 10, for two weeks through May 21.  

While crews from MTA New York City Transit perform track maintenance, repair and cleaning in the corridor, MTA Construction & Development will use the platform and track access created during this time to advance elevator replacement work at 34 St - Herald Sq. 

FASTRACK work typically includes: 

  • Track – remove debris and repair or replace tie blocks and running rails. 
  • Third Rail Operations – clean and remove debris from under and around the third rail. 
  • Signals – perform general maintenance on signals and switches. 
  • Infrastructure – repair or replace handrails, signs, and tunnel lighting. Clean track drains and repair water damage/leaks. 
  • Electronic Maintenance – optimize performance of closed-circuit television monitors and cameras. Inspect and test public address system equipment. 
  • Station Environment – perform high-intensity station cleaning and painting as well as perform elevator and escalator repair work. Clean vents and drains. 

Beginning Monday, May 10 from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. and continuing on weeknights through Friday morning, May 21, the following service changes will be in effect: 

  • d & F Subway trains will not stop at 47-50 Sts – Rockefeller Center, 42 St-Bryant Park, 14 St, W 4 St-Washington Square, and Broadway-Lafayette St   
  • d trains also will not stop at 7 Av and Grand St  
  • F Subway trains also will not stop at 2 Av, Delancy St, East Broadway and York St   
  • d & F Subway trains will “swap” routes in Brooklyn:  
  • F Subway trains will run between Jamaica-179 St and Roosevelt Av, making all local stops in Queens after 1p.m. to Manhattan and after Midnight to Jamaica-179 St, and then:   
  • via the R Subway to/from 57 St-7Av    
  • via the Q Subway express to/from Atlantic Av-Barclays Center    
  • via the d in Brooklyn between Atlantic Av-Barclays Center and Coney Island-Stillwell Av   
  • d trains will run normally between Norwood-205 St and 59 St-Columbus Circle and then:  
  • via the a to/from Jay St-MetroTech  
  • via the F Subway in Brooklyn between Jay St-MetroTech and Coney Island-Stillwell Av  

Three free shuttle buses will run 

  • between Roosevelt Island and Queens Plaza  
  • between W 4 St and East Broadway  
  • between W 4 St and Grand St.   

For stations without d and/or F Subway train service the following alternatives will be in effect:   

  • For 21 St-Queensbridge F Subway and Roosevelt Island F Subway, take a shuttle bus and transfer at Queens Plaza to/from the e or R Subway trains, or the F Subway train on the R Subway tracks    
  • For Lexington Av/63 St F Subway, take the Q Subway train    
  • For 7 Av d, take the e train   
  • For 57 St F Subway, 47-50 Sts dF Subway, 42 St-Bryant Pk dF Subway, use nearby N SubwayQ SubwayR Subway stations along 7 Av for the F Subway train on the Q Subway tracks    
  • For 34 St-Herald Square dF Subway, take the N SubwayQ SubwayR Subway trains, or the F Subway train on the Q Subway tracks    
  • For 23 St F Subway use nearby N SubwayQ SubwayR Subway station along Broadway    
  • For 14 St F Subway, take the l train to Union Square for the F Subway train on the Q Subway tracks or take the l train to 8 Av for the d train on the a tracks   
  • For W 4 St dF Subway, take the a or e trains, or the d train on the a tracks   
  • For Broadway-Lafayette St dF Subway, take the 6 or 4 local trains, or take the shuttle bus and transfer at W 4 St to/from the a or e trains, or the d train on the a tracks    
  • For 2 Av F Subway, Delancey St/Essex St F Subway and East Broadway F Subway, take the shuttle bus and transfer at W 4 St to/from the a or e trains, or the d train on the a tracks or take the shuttle bus and at Bleecker St/Broadway-Lafayette St transfer to/from  the 6 or 4 local trains    
  • For Grand St, take the shuttle bus and transfer at W 4 St to/from the a or e trains, or the d train on the a tracks    
  • For York St, use nearby High St a station for the d train on the a tracks   

Please note that for the week of May 10, the subway system will remain closed for disinfecting between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m.   

Starting May 17, the subway will be open 24 hours per day. 

This service change affects one or more ADA accessible stations and these travel alternatives may not be fully accessible. Please contact 511 to plan your trip. 

Local elected officials and community boards have been notified about this work.
