Service Changes are Part of Subway Action Plan, Station Repairs and Other Ongoing Maintenance, and Upgrade Work for Improvements on Multiple Lines

These weekend service changes are part of the MTA Subway Action Plan, station improvements in Queens and Manhattan, and ongoing maintenance, repair and upgrade work throughout the MTA New York City Transit subway system to maintain and upgrade track, signal, station and other infrastructure in order to provide customers with safe and reliable service.  More information on the 2015-2019 MTA Capital Program is available here.

This weekend, work crews will be dispersed throughout the entire subway system to perform a variety of critical tasks in the areas of track replacement and maintenance, signal modernization, station enhancements, electrical upgrades and communication improvements.  All this work is aligned with the MTA Subway Action Plan, a comprehensive plan to stabilize and modernize the subway system by attacking the key drivers of 79 percent of delay-causing major incidents and strategically targeting additional personnel and equipment to focus on critical parts of the system.   

Through summer 2020, the MTA is rehabilitating the  tunnel using an improved construction plan that maintains regular weekday and peak hour service for 90 percent of  customers, as weekday and peak hour service are unchanged.  The project minimizes construction-related disruption to riders and communities near the work sites while yielding cost savings due to the revised work plan. Coney Island’s Mermaid Parade

Going to the annual Mermaid Parade at Coney Island on Saturday, June 22? The best way is by public transit via the  lines to Coney Island-Stillwell Av or MTA buses. The parade begins at West 21 Street and Surf Avenue and makes its way east to West 10 Street and the boardwalk, ending at Stillwell Avenue.  The following NYC Transit bus routes operate in the area of the parade route and may be subject to street closures and reroutes: B36, B64, B68, B74, B82 and X28.

Subway customers headed to the parade are reminded that Coney Island-bound  trains run express from 8 Av to Bay Pkwy due to ongoing station rehabilitation work on the Sea Beach Line. Other service changes due to maintenance, repair and upgrade work this weekend include: Jamaica-bound  run express from Avenue X to Smith-9 Streets, use a Coney Island-bound  train instead; and Manhattan-bound  trains run express from Kings Hwy to Prospect Park, use a Coney Island-bound  train to complete your trip. 

From 11:15 p.m. Friday, June 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 24, trains will not run between 96 St and Van Cortlandt Park-242 St due to track and switch maintenance near 137 St.  Take free shuttle buses, M3, M100 and  trains instead.   trains will run between South Ferry and 96 St.  Buses will run along four routes: use the  to nearby stations via transfer at 59 St , 168 St shuttle bus/, Dyckman St  to Dyckman St , or 207 St shuttle bus/.  As a reminder the 168 St  station is closed. 

At all times until July 2019, the uptown platform at Franklin St will be EXIT ONLY due to the installation of flood protection equipment.  For uptown service from this station, take a downtown train to Chambers St and transfer to an uptown  or .  Or, use the nearby Canal St  station.   

At all times until early 2020, trains skip 168 St in both directions due to elevator replacement work.  For alternate service take the  at/to this station.  Transfer between  and  trains at 59 St-Columbus Circle.  A free out-of-system transfer with a MetroCard is available between the 207 St or 215 St  and 207 St .  Take the M5 to/from 157 St .  Late nights, the M5 will run between 168 St and 157 St.  This work is part of a major elevator replacement project at five separate “deep” stations in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan.  The  line part of the 168 St station is 112 years old.  Some of the oldest components in these elevators and the accompanying machine rooms are more than 90 years old.  When completed, the elevator doors at 168 St  will open at both the front and rear sides at the lower mezzanine level.  The rear passageway behind the elevators at the lower mezzanine level will be reopened in order to improve customer flow.  For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions click here. 

From 4:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday, June 23, trains will run every 15 minutes and downtown trains will skip Jackson Av due track maintenance in the tunnel near Jackson Av.  As an alternative, use an uptown  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at 3 Av-149 St or Intervale Av.

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, June 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 24, Manhattan-bound trains will skip Eastern Pkwy-Brooklyn Museum, Grand Army Plaza, and Bergen St due to accessibility improvements including elevator installation and ADA platform rehab at the Eastern Pkwy-Brooklyn Museum station.  As an alternative, use a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound  or New Lots Av-bound  local train to complete your trip.  Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr or Franklin Av. 

At all times until July 2019, Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound trains will skip President St due to staircase and platform edge rehabilitation work.  For service to President St, take a Flatbush Av-bound  to Sterling St and transfer to a Manhattan-bound  or  train.  For service from President St, use the B44 local or B44 SBS bus.  Or, take a Manhattan-bound  to Franklin Av and transfer to a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College-bound  or  train. 

At all times until June 28, Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound trains will skip Winthrop St due to staircase and platform edge rehabilitation work.  For service to Winthrop St, take a Flatbush Av-bound  to Sterling St and transfer to a B44 local or B44 SBS bus to complete your trip.  The station agent will issue transfer tickets upon request.  Or, take a Flatbush Av-bound  to Church Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound  or  train.  For service from Winthrop St, use the nearby Church Av station or the B44/B44 SBS bus. Or, take the Manhattan-bound  to Sterling St and transfer to a Flatbush Av-bound  train.

From 9:45 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Friday, June 21, and from 6 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 22 and June 23, Manhattan-bound trains will skip Eastern Pkwy-Brooklyn Museum, Grand Army Plaza, and Bergen St due to accessibility improvements including elevator installation and ADA platform rehab at the Eastern Pkwy-Brooklyn Museum station.  As an alternative, use a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound  or New Lots Av-bound  local train to complete your trip.  Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr or Franklin Av. 

From 10 p.m. Friday, June 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 24, trains will run local in both directions between 125 St and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall due to track maintenance and tie block renewal at Spring St.

Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 21, service will end early between E 180 St and Bowling Green due to track maintenance and tie block renewal at Spring St.  Take the  and/or  instead.  As a reminder  service does not run in Manhattan overnight.

From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, June 22 to 10 p.m. Sunday, June 23, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St due to switch work and track replacement at Morris Park and Eastchester-Dyre Av.   trains will run every 20 minutes, days and evenings, between E 180 St and Bowling Green (except on Sunday morning).  Free shuttle buses will make all  line station stops between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St.  Transfer between buss and  trains at E 180 St.  As a reminder, the Eastchester-Dyre Av bound platform at Gun Hill Rd is closed for station rehabilitation. 

From 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 22, and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, June 23, trains will run every 20 minutes between E 180 St and Bowling Green due to track replacement.  Trains will also run local in both directions between 125 St and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall. 

From 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday, June 23, trains will not run between Eastchester-Dyre Av/E 180 St and Bowling Green due track maintenance in the tunnel near Jackson Av.  Free shuttle buses will make all  line station stops between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St.  Transfer between shuttle buses and  trains at E 180 St, and between  trains at 149 St-Grand Concourse.  

At all times until September 2019, Eastchester-Dyre Av bound trains will skip Gun Hill Rd due to station rehabilitation work.  When finished, this will yield a better travel experience for customers, including the installation of a mezzanine to platform elevator, providing mobility impaired customers with better accessibility.  Rehabilitation work will consist of the expansion and reconfiguration of the control house, a new booth, a larger unpaid area, new ADA signage and cameras throughout the station, new station entrance and retail configuration, reconstructed platforms, new ADA boarding areas and tactile platform warning strips, new ADA hand railings along the platform staircases and modifications to the platform canopies to accommodate the new elevator shafts.

In order to accomplish the repair and reconstruction of the platforms within a safe environment, the northbound side of this station will be closed for approximately six months.  For service to this station, take the  to Baychester Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound .  For service from this station, take the  to Pelham Pkwy and transfer to an Eastchester-Dyre Av bound . 

From 3:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, June 23, Flushing-bound trains will skip 82 St, 90 St, 103 St and 111 St due to track maintenance.  As an alternative use a Manhattan-bound  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at Willets Point, Junction Blvd, or 74 St-Broadway.

From 10 p.m. Friday, June 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, June 24, uptown trains will run local from Canal St to 59 St-Columbus Circle due to track maintenance near W 4 St.    

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, June 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 24, downtown trains will skip 50 St, 23 St, and Spring St due to track maintenance including drain cleaning between 59 St-Columbus Circle and Canal St.  As an alternative, use an uptown  local, , or  to complete your trip.  Transfer at Canal St, W 4 St, 14 St, 34 St-Penn Station, 42 St/Port Authority, or 59 St-Columbus Circle .  As a reminder  trains do not run during the late nights. 

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, June 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 24, Queens-bound  and Euclid Av-bound  trains will run express from Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts to Euclid Av due to deep cleaning station maintenance between Lafayette Av and Euclid Av.  As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound  local or  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at Euclid Av, Broadway Junction, Utica Av, Nostrand Av or Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts.  As a reminder,  trains do not run during late nights. 

From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer, the Rockaway Park/Beach 116 St S shuttle service will be extended to Rockaway Blvd to facilitate beach traffic to the peninsula.  Customers can take any  train to connect with the shuttle at Rockaway Blvd.  This seasonal service will also be available on Memorial Day, July Fourth and Labor Day.  For more information on how to take MTA services to the beach, refer to this prior press release.

Beginning 8:30 p.m., Friday, June 21, service will end early due to track maintenance near 167 St.  As an alternative, take  and/or  trains instead.  As a reminder,  trains do not run on weekends.    

From 10:45 p.m. Friday, June 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 24, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Norwood-205 St and Bedford Pk Blvd due to track maintenance including drain cleaning between Norwood-205 St and Bedford Pk Blvd.   trains will run between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Bedford Pk Blvd.  Free shuttle buses will run between Bedford Pk Blvd and Norwood-205 St.  Transfer between trains and shuttle buses at Bedford Pk Blvd. 

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, June 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 24, downtown trains will skip 23 St and Spring St due to track maintenance including drain cleaning between 59 St-Columbus Circle and Canal St.  As an alternative, use an uptown  local, , or  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at Canal St, W 4 St, 14 St, or 34 St-Penn Station. 

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, June 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 24, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Briarwood and Jamaica Center due to track panel replacement between Briarwood and Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer.   trains will run between World Trade Center and Briarwood, and via the  line to/from 179 St.  Free shuttle buses will make all  line station stops between Union Tpke and Jamaica Center.  Transfer between trains and buses at Union Tpke or Briarwood.  For service to Manhattan and JFK Airport, take the  to/from Howard Beach-JFK Airport.

From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, June 22 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 24, trains will run local in both directions in Queens due to ongoing signal modernization work along the Queens Boulevard corridor. 

From 6:45 a.m. Saturday, June 22 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 23, Jamaica-bound trains will skip Avenue U, Avenue P, Avenue N, Bay Pkwy, Avenue I and Ditmas Av due to track and signal maintenance.  As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at Church Av, 18 Av, Kings Hwy, or Avenue X.

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, June 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 24, Jamaica-bound  and Court Sq-bound  trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, 15 St-Prospect Park, and 4 Av-9 St due to track maintenance at Fort Hamilton Pkwy.  As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound ,  or Church Av-bound  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at Simith-9 Sts, 7 Av, or Church Av.

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, June 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 24, trains will not run between Broad St and Chambers St due to track maintenance and drain cleaning near Chambers St.  As an alternative, use the  at the nearby Fulton St, Wall St, or Bowling Green stations instead.  Transfer at Chambers St-Brooklyn Bridge.

Until summer 2020,  trains will run every 20 minutes between Brooklyn and Manhattan, in both directions on weekends and weeknights.  Within Brooklyn,  trains run every 10 minutes in both directions on weekends from 6 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.  NYC Transit encourages customers to take advantage of extensive and robust options in its alternative service plan for quicker travel or to avoid crowds. The alternate service options include: 

• Enhanced subway service on  and  lines on weeknights and weekends, including extended .
• Enhanced bus service on 14th Street, including additional weeknight and weekend M14A bus service to Delancey/Essex St for links to .
• The Williamsburg Link bus route, B91A, connects with the Bedford Av and Marcy Av subway stations.
• Free subway transfers to make connections easier between Livonia St  and Junius St , and from Broadway  to Hewes St  or Lorimer St .

From 10 p.m. Friday, June 21 to 1:30 a.m. Saturday, June 22, and from 6 a.m. Saturday, June 22 to 1:30 a.m. Monday, June 24, special weekend  service to help accommodate customers during the  Project runs between Brooklyn and up to 96 St in Manhattan.   trains will run between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, and via the  to/from Lexington Av/63 St, and via the  to/from 96 St. 

At all times through summer 2020, service will end early between Forest Hills-71 Av and 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr due to ongoing signal modernization work along the Queens Boulevard corridor.  For Queens, take the .  For Court Sq-23 St, Lexington Av-53 St, and 5 Av/53 St, take the .  Transfer at 34 St-Herald Sq  or W 4 St .

From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, June 22 to 10 p.m. Sunday, June 23, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza due to station renewal at Astoria Blvd.  trains will run between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Queensboro Plaza.  Free shuttle buses will make all  line station stops between Queensboro Plaza and Ditmars Blvd.  Some express buses departing Ditmars Blvd will run express to Queensboro Plaza.  Transfer between trains and buses at Queensboro Plaza.  As a reminder, the Astoria Blvd station is closed for renewal work until December 2019.     

At all times until December 2019, trains will skip Astoria Blvd in both directions due to station renewal work to add four new elevators and other accessibility features, as well as demolish and rebuild the station mezzanine with more vertical clearance to over-height vehicles traveling below the station structure.  When this project is completed in late 2020, the Astoria Blvd station will have two street-to-mezzanine elevators, two mezzanine-to-platform elevators, a new station mezzanine, repaired or replaced structural columns and foundations, repaired concrete platform surfaces, new street and platform stairs, new platform stair enclosures, and new platform canopies and mezzanine overpass walkway canopies.  Lights, signs and gates will also be replaced.  The new station structure will be reinforced to support the weight of the new elevators and facilities.  For more details about this critical structural repair project, refer to this prior press release.  For information on improvement projects on the Astoria Line, refer to this prior press release.   

As an alternative, use nearby stations use nearby stations at 30 Av or Ditmars Blvd.  Take W to Queensboro Plaza, then  to 74 St-Roosevelt Av, or take the  to 74 St-Roosevelt Av.  As a reminder,  trains operate days/evenings only, and  trains do not run overnight or on the weekend.  M60 SBS customers are advised to use the LaGuardia Link Q70 SBS instead.  The LaGuardia Link Q70 SBS serves the 74 St-Roosevelt Av station.

At all times until summer 2019, Coney Island-bound trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, and 20 Av, due to station rehabilitation work on the Sea Beach Line.  When finished, this will yield a better travel experience for customers, including the installation of elevators at 8 Av and New Utrecht Av stations, providing mobility impaired customers with better accessibility, upgraded communication systems, installation of Help Point intercoms, new stairways and handrails, reconstructed platforms and overpasses, repairs to canopies and columns, and artwork.  For service to these stations, use a Manhattan-bound  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at Bay Pkwy or 8 Av.  For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the  instead.  Transfer between  and  trains at 36 St. 

At all times until July 2019, trains will run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to structural rehabilitation work to repair and replace steel columns, lighting, ventilators, and deteriorated concrete, and perform water mitigation work to address water seepage in the express tunnel between the 59 St and 36 St stations.   trains will stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions.

From 5:45 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, June 22 and June 23, Manhattan-bound trains will run express from Kings Hwy to Prospect Park due to track maintenance.  As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at Prospect Park, Church Av, Newkirk Plaza, or Kings Hwy.
