Plasterers Recruit Apprentices

North Tonawanda, NY (September 18, 2015) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Plasterers, Local Union #9, will conduct a recruitment from October 7, 2015 through September 7, 2016 for five plasterer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications may be obtained at Local Union #9, 168 Robinson Street, North Tonawanda, NY, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month, during the recruitment period. 

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have completed the 9th
  • Must sign a statement, after selection and prior to indenture, indicating that they are physically able to perform the work of a plasterer, which includes:
    • Working at heights of 25 feet or more.
    • Lifting objects weighing as much as 70 lbs.
  • Must participate in an interview, if selected.
  • Must pass a drug test and physical exam, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work and related instruction.
  • Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
