NEW YORK DEPARTMENT OF STATE AND TOWN OF EVANS ANNOUNCE ADOPTION OF PARKS AND MARINA MASTER PLAN

The Evans Parks and Sturgeon Point Marina Master Plan Will Guide Revitalization of Town’s Waterfront, Recreational Resources

Plan was Created with Local Waterfront Revitalization Program Grant

New York Secretary of State Walter T. Mosley and the Town of Evans announce the Town’s adoption of the Evans Parks and Sturgeon Point Marina Master Plan. The comprehensive, long-term strategy will guide future investment, revitalization and enhancement efforts along the Town’s waterfront, marina and park system. Developed through a community-driven planning process supported by a $131,250 grant from the Department of State’s (DOS) Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP), the Master Plan establishes a vision for improving water-related recreational amenities, strengthening resilience and accessibility, and is the blueprint for a series of implementation efforts that will support economic development opportunities while preserving the natural beauty and character of the Evans waterfront.

“This Master Plan is an important milestone in the Town of Evans’ ongoing efforts to strengthen and revitalize its waterfront and recreational resources,” said New York Secretary of State Walter T. Mosley. “Supported through the Department of State’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Program, this comprehensive community-driven effort reflects a shared vision for creating accessible, resilient public spaces that will benefit current and future residents and visitors. By investing in waterfront parks, marina facilities and public amenities, the Town Evans is positioning itself for sustainable economic growth while preserving the natural beauty and character that makes this community so special.”

“The ongoing and future improvements to our Sturgeon Point Marina and nine other public parks will continue to strengthen the visitor experience while helping to address the needs and desires of our local Evans community,” said Evans Town Supervisor Ray Ashton. “This plan provides a thoughtful roadmap for preserving and enhancing our waterfront assets in a way that supports recreation, tourism and quality of life for everyone.”

The Master Plan is the result of a comprehensive three-year planning, research, design and community engagement initiative dubbed “Charting Our Course: Reimagining Evans Parks and Waterfront.” It outlines responsible investments in the Town’s waterfront recreational resources, emphasizing functionality, universal design, sustainability, accessibility and resiliency.

In addition, the plan explores strategies, provides recommendations and presents new conceptual designs to utilize the Town’s marina, parks and public spaces as tools for tourism, economic development and community building, all while maintaining the small-town feel and natural beauty of the Evans waterfront.
