State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine today announced the following events running from April 19 - 21 at the New York State Fairgrounds: Some of the top young horse riders in the country will meet at the Fairgrounds Coliseum for the Interscholastic National Horse Show. The Hunt Seat National Finals will feature riders in grades 6 – 12 as they show specific mastery of their horses. The horses and riders will jump hurdles, trot, and demonstrate other handling skills. The event is organized by the Interscholastic Equestrian Organization in order to provide fair equestrian opportunities and help prepare young riders for college-level riding and scholarships. Competition begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free. The Country Folk Art show and sale, taking place in the Horticulture Building, offers the perfect opportunity to find a one-of-a-kind piece for the home. From handcrafted furniture to framed art, and from textiles to gourmet delights, the show provides unique decorating possibilities. The show has become a Fairgrounds staple, and co-owner Keith Blakely said, “We have a very loyal following in Syracuse. I even know some of the returning customers by name and face!” The show runs from 5 – 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday. Details on admission prices and a discount coupon can be found on the show’s website, countryfolkart.com. The New York State Arms Collectors Association brings its semi-annual Syracuse Gun Show back to the Center of Progress Building. The show features exhibits and displays from all over the United States. Visitors can see and buy guns that go all the way back to the Revolutionary War. The show runs Saturday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Details on admission can be found on the show’s website, syracusegunshow.com. In addition to the annual New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious horse and livestock shows. The home of the Great New York State Fair is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates all year. A year-round schedule of events is available on the Fair’s website. Find The Great New York State Fair on Facebook or follow NYS Fair on Twitter.
