PSC SEEKS COMMENT ON UNITED WATER RATE PROPOSAL

Public Comment Sought on Recommended Decision

Albany, NY—The New York State Public Service Commission (Commission) today announced that it is seeking comment on a pending request of United Water New York, Inc. (UWNY) to increase its total revenues by approximately $21.3 million (28.9 percent), and on a recommendation made by Commission Administrative Law Judges to increase total revenues by approximately $11.1 million (15 percent).

The April 8, 2014, recommendation put forth by the Administrative Law Judges also propose levels of revenues, expenses, and rate of return, as well as address customer service and fire service issues.  A copy of the recommended decision, and all other case documents, are publicly available on the Commission’s website at www.dps.ny.gov. The Commission may approve, modify, or reject the recommended decision in whole or in part.

The rate case does not include consideration of UWNY’s proposal to construct a desalination plant in Haverstraw Bay to meet its long-term water supply needs, nor does it include consideration of UWNY’s request to implement a surcharge to recover development costs for the long-term supply proposal.

UWNY serves approximately 74,000 customers in Orange and Rockland Counties.
