DEC CLOSES SNOWMOBILE TRAILS AND ROADS ON DEC LANDS IN THE NORTH COUNTRY

Due to warm weather and a lack of snow, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is closing snowmobile trails and seasonal access roads on Forest Preserve, State Forest and Conservation Easement Lands in the Adirondacks, Tug Hill Plateau and across the North Country.

All snowmobile trails and seasonal access roads and associated gates will be closed by the upcoming weekend. The lack of snow is dangerous to snowmobilers and damaging to snowmobiles. In addition, any motorized or motor vehicle use on the trails and seasonal access roads can damage the trails, roads and natural resources.

Seasonal access roads, even those not opened to snowmobiling this winter due to the lack of snow, will remain closed during the spring mud season. DEC will reopen the roads once any needed maintenance is completed and the roads are dry enough to safely handle motor vehicle traffic. Motor vehicle use during the spring mud season will damage roads and result in road opening delays.
