Usource Supports ORDA’s Commitment to Environmental Responsibility

LAKE PLACID, N.Y.  – Usource announced that in conjunction with one of its largest electric suppliers, it has provided 100% renewable energy to two New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) ski resorts; Whiteface Mountain and Belleayre Mountain. This donation strengthens ORDA’s commitment to environmental responsibility by incorporating Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to mountain operations.

Whiteface Mountain, in Wilmington, hosted the 1980 Olympic Winter Games’ alpine events and along with the village and has also played host to countless World Cup events. Belleayre Mountain, in Highmount, boasts terrain and progression parks as well as 50 trails for beginners and experts.

With the assistance of ORDA’s energy advisor Usource, the mountains offset 100 per cent of their carbon emissions from electricity consumption with RECs from January 1, 2016 through March 31, 2016. Each REC represents the environmental attributes or benefits associated with a specific quantity of energy generated from a renewable source, such as solar or wind. ORDA offset more than 18.2 million kilowatts of its electricity use for the two mountains.

“This is an important project to not only ORDA, but to the ski resorts that we manage and operate,” said ORDA president/CEO Ted Blazer. “It’s important that we remain Stewards of the environment so that generations of skiers and riders can enjoy this sport and activity for years to come.”

This renewable energy supply is part of a larger, comprehensive energy management strategy designed by energy advisor Usource, along with mountain management.

“At Usource, we are always on the lookout for how we can deliver more value to our clients. That includes using energy more wisely and sustainably as well as procuring lower cost electricity. Thanks to the creativity of our Usource team and the generous donation from the mountains’ electric supplier, we were thrilled we could put together a program to deliver 100 per cent carbon-free electricity at Whiteface and Belleayre.” said Scott MacDonald, Managing Director at Usource.
