Insulation & Asbestos Workers Recruit Apprentices

Buffalo, NY (May 19, 2014) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Heat & Frost Insulators & Allied Workers Local Union #4 will conduct a recruitment from June 17, 2014 through June 16, 2015 for four insulation and asbestos worker apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #4, 2484 Seneca Street, Buffalo, NY, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.  Completed applications must be received by June 16, 2015.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
  • Must attest in writing that he/she is physically able to perform the work of an insulation and asbestos worker.
  • Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must reside in the geographic jurisdiction of Local Union #4.  This includes the following:
    • The counties of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Niagara, and Wyoming.
    • In Genesee County - the townships of Alabama, Alexander, Darien, Oakfield, and Pembroke.
    • In Pennsylvania - the counties of McKean, Potter, and Warren.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites and related instruction. 
  • Must have a valid New York State driver’s license.  Apprentices may be required to drive company vehicles.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
