WEDDING EXPO HIGHLIGHTS ANOTHER BUSY WEEKEND AT THE FAIRGROUNDS

Also: Fright Nights’ Final Weekend, Equipment Auction, Horse & Alpaca Shows

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets today announced the following events running from Friday, October 25 to Sunday, October 27 at the New York State Fairgrounds:

Brides can enjoy one-stop shopping for their upcoming weddings at Wedding World Expo, a free event being held on Sunday, October 27 in the Horticulture Building at the New York State Fairgrounds.  Scores of industry professionals representing all aspects of a wedding will be on hand – from venues, cake bakers, and photographers to dress and tuxedo providers, bands and DJs, and florists.  The organizers promise raffles, a diamond giveaway, and live entertainment from Letizia and the Z Band.  The event runs from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  There is no charge to attend, but organizers ask brides, grooms, and others to pre-register at https://weddingworldexpo.eventbrite.com/.  More information about the event can be found at http://www.cnyweddingworld.com/.

Local governments and private contractors in need of heavy equipment should come to Roy Teitsworth’s Onondaga County Area Municipal Surplus and Contractor Equipment Auction.  It takes place in the Belle Isle Parking Lot beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26.  The auction features everything from vans and pickups to loaders and backhoes, along with mowers, trailers, generators, and a variety of other useful industrial equipment.  A full list of available equipment and a link to a photo gallery of the equipment can be found here:  http://bit.ly/HfIDpp.

It’s the final weekend of Fright Nights at the Fair in the Beef Barn.  Hours are 7 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Sundays.  Fright Nights features six scary attractions, as well as non-scary carnival rides for young children, and food and drink vending. The organizers do not recommend the thrill attractions for children younger than age 9 and advise that parents should use their discretion. Ticket prices are $10 for a single attraction, $15 for the 3-D Haunted Hayride, and $20 for all attractions and the hayride.  More information:  http://frightnightsatthefair.com/.

The CNY Reining Horse Association holds its Fall Classic in the Toyota Coliseum from Friday to Sunday.  Admission is free.  The event features reining horses competing in a number of classes.  A Futurity event for 3 year olds will earn the winner the biggest share of more than $25,000 in prize money.

The Empire Alpaca Association holds its Alpaca Trifecta in the Events Center beginning at 8:00 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.  Admission is free. More than 750 animals from more than 200 farms will be on hand.  Organizers promise fiber arts demonstrations, many vendors, and educational seminars in addition to the competitions in halter and performance classes.

The New York State Fair, operated by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, runs from August 21 – September 1, 2014.  The Fair’s mission is to showcase the best of New York agriculture while providing top-quality entertainment.

In addition to the annual New York State Fair, the Fairgrounds host dozens of agricultural events throughout the year, including some of the Northeast’s most prestigious horse and livestock shows.

The home of the Great New York State Fair is a 375-acre exhibit and entertainment complex that operates all year. A year-round schedule of events is available on the Fair’s website.  Find The Great New York State Fair on Facebook, follow @NYSFair on Twitter, and enjoy photos from the Fair at Flickr.com/GreatNYSFair. Also, New Yorkers are invited to send their ideas for the Great New York State Fair at statefairideas@agriculture.ny.gov.
