OGDENSBURG, N.Y. – Joyce Wood, 74, of Hammond, St. Lawrence County won a $2,000,000 Powerball prize from the May 22, 2013 drawing. By choosing the Power Play option for an additional dollar, Wood turned a $1,000,000 win into a $2,000,000 payday.

Wood explained, “I went to the drug store to buy Tylenol for my husband and saw that the Powerball jackpot was $40,000,000. So I bought five sets of Quick Pick numbers with the Power Play option on the day before the drawing. The next day, I check my numbers online, and that’s when I knew I had won big.”

Wood said her newfound Lottery winnings are not going to change her life. She said, “I’m just going to enjoy life and spend it with my family.”

Wood purchased her Powerball ticket at Kinney Drugs at 700 Canton Street in Ogdensburg. She claimed her prize on May 23 at the Lottery’s Syracuse Customer Service Center.

Wood will receive her $2,000,000 Powerball prize in one lump sum totaling $1,323,600 after required withholdings. The winning numbers for the May 22 Powerball drawing were 09-31-35-41-57 and Powerball 26.

The New York Lottery contributed $25,176,155.37 in Lottery Aid To Education to school districts throughout St. Lawrence County during fiscal year 2012-13.
