To accommodate the transition of the northbound lanes back to the permanent alignment following roadway restoriation work, up to two Bronx-bound lanes will be closed this weekend at the Throgs Neck Bridge. Work will begin Friday night, July 26, at 10:00 p.m. and last until 6:00 p.m., Saturday July 27. At least one lane will remain open to Bronx-bound traffic. The roadway realignment and restoration completes the process of converting the Throgs Neck Bridge to Open Road Tolling.Queens-bound lanes are unaffected, as that work was completed last week. These roadway improvements were accelerated and completed several weeks ahead of schedule. To accommodate this transition:
This work includes the realignment and restoration of the Bronx approach roadways in the decommissioned toll plaza areas to improve highway travel, and the enhancement of pavement, striping, and roadway shoulders. In addition, new and improved features are being added, including the installation of new LED roadway lighting and light poles, new drainage systems, and a permanent median barrier. Furthermore, this work allows for the construction of new safe pullover areas, as well as the establishment of new turf grass areas within the former toll plaza area limits. Motorists should expect delays and plan accordingly. The Bronx-Whitestone and the Robert F. Kennedy bridges can be used as alternate routes. Motorists can sign up for MTA e-mail or text alerts at www.mymtaalerts.com and check the Bridges and Tunnels homepage or Facebook page for the latest information on this planned work. |
