Laborers Recruit Apprentices

Buffalo, NY (January 28, 2019) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Buffalo Laborers Training JAC will conduct a recruitment from March 12, 2019 through December 10, 2019 for 10 skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications must be completed on site at the Buffalo Laborers Training Center, 1370 Seneca Street, Buffalo, NY, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., on the second Tuesday of each month during the recruitment period.  

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
  • Must attest in writing that they are physically able to perform the work of the trade, which may include:
    • Working with sharp objects and hazardous machinery.
    • Possible exposure to loud noises and respiratory irritants.
    • Prolonged lifting, standing, and walking.
    • Repetitive squatting and bending.
    • Working in extreme temperatures-outside on winter days, or inside in confined areas where high temperatures maybe reached.
    • Lifting and moving heavy objects and equipment.
    • Working on scaffolds and ladders at protected heights.
  • Must possess a valid New York State driver’s license in order to operate company-owned vehicles.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from related instruction classes and various jobsites throughout the jurisdictional area.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
