WHITEFACE AND GORE MOUNTAINS SLATED TO OPEN ON DECEMBER 5, 2020

Whiteface & Gore Visitor Alert: Limited Access for Opening Weekend

Lake Placid, New York –The Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) today announced that Whiteface Mountain, in Wilmington, and Gore Mountain, in North Creek, will open this weekend for the 2020-21 season with more than 2.5 miles of terrain ready for riders to enjoy. Access to the mountains on Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6 will be limited to season passholders or those using the first day of their Frequent Skier Card.

“We are excited to announce the opening of our ski areas,” said Olympic Regional Development Authority President and CEO, Mike Pratt. “This winter season the focus is on the health and safety of all guests and staff, as well as delivering an outstanding on-snow experience. Skiing is outdoor recreation that allows for social distancing,” said Pratt. “As everyone prepares to enjoy the season, please review the ski area websites to educate yourself on expected practices.”

Whiteface Mountain will open with over 1 mile and 19 acres of terrain. Skiers and riders will have access to three trails via the Facelift chair, Broadway, Lower Valley, and the Fox trails. Gore Mountain will be starting its season with 1.5 miles of terrain connecting the Saddle Area to the Showcase trail. The high-speed Adirondack Express, a four-person chairlift, will service guests for opening weekend.

While we know that this season will be unlike other seasons, we are so excited to welcome back skiers and riders to Whiteface,” Whiteface Mountain General Manager Aaron Kellett said.  “The best thing we can do right now is enjoy the outdoors in a safe and responsible way. Crews have been preparing since last year, and we are eager for visitors to see all the new improvements.”

“We encourage everyone to read the COVID-19 operating updates listed on our website and then come prepared to enjoy the outdoors and the fun, exciting experience that skiing and snowboarding provide,” Gore Mountain General Manager James Bayse said. “Our continued improvements to lifts, trails, and snowmaking will help guests spread out and enjoy all of the variety that Gore Mountain offers.”

E-tickets and window tickets will be available for purchase beginning Monday, December 7, 2020 through the remainder of the season. These tickets are limited in quantity, and guests are encouraged to pre-purchase early and lock in desired dates.

Skiing and riding will look different this season. All ORDA venues and staff are adhering to the NYS Guidelines for COVID-19 safety and protocols. Face coverings are required at all times except for when actively skiing or when eating/drinking while seated. ORDA encourages all guests to visit its operational updates pages, Whiteface and Gore to stay informed and prepared for their visit.
