MTA New York City Transit will be rebuilding a portion of the  line in Queens, including all tracks and switches, to ensure safe and reliable service near the line’s Jamaica Center terminal over a period of 9 days of lower ridership starting later this month.

“This track and switch reconstruction is critical to keeping the  line in a state of good repair because service into and out of the ’s Jamaica terminal is vital to the entire line’s reliability,” said MTA New York City Transit President Andy Byford. “Once the work is complete,  customers will benefit from a smoother, more reliable ride for many years to come.”

From 9:30 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2018, to 5 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2019,  trains will operate only between Broad St and 121 St in both directions at all hours.  skip-stop service will be suspended, and  customers can use  trains instead. Free shuttle buses will make stops at Jamaica-Van Wyck and 121 St. Customers going to Parsons Blvd-Archer Av and Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av should use the  line. Customers seeking to take the AirTrain to John F. Kennedy International Airport may take a shuttle bus to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av, or the  train to Howard Beach.

NYC Transit scheduled this critical track and switch reconstruction project during a period of lower ridership, over a holiday and during winter break for many schools and colleges in the area.

NYC Transit is committed to improving subway service across the system, particularly in Queens where a major signal modernization project to Communications-Based Train Control is underway on the  lines and several station structural improvement projects are near completion or underway on the  line in the Richmond Hill area. Both the  and  lines are undergoing track and infrastructure maintenance and repairs to improve overall reliability near the  terminals in Jamaica, and this infrastructure work has been carefully scheduled to ensure that communities in the Jamaica area will continue to be served by a subway line and/or free shuttle buses. Signage has been posted at affected stations to provide details of the alternate service for the  construction project.
