Electricians Recruit Apprentices

 

Niagara Falls, NY (May 16, 2013) - The Niagara County Electricians Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee, Local Union #237, will conduct a recruitment from May 8, 2013 through May 7, 2014 for four electrician (house or residential) apprentices and ten electrician apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Local Union #237, 8803 Niagara Falls Blvd., Niagara Falls, NY, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on every Wednesday, except legal holidays, during the recruitment period.  All applications must be completed on the premises.

Applicant must pay a $10.00 testing fee at the time of application. Please note: You may request that this fee be waived. Fee waivers will be approved upon showing verifiable proof of financial need.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D) and must provide evidence of successful completion with a passing grade (full credit) of high school algebra or equivalent at time of indenture.
  • Must provide official high school transcript and official transcript for any additional applicable education or training at time of indenture.
  • Must provide a copy of military separation form DD214 to verify military training (if applicable) at time of indenture.
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required, as determined by the following:
    • Must be able to climb and work from ladders, scaffolds, poles or towers of various heights.
    • Must be able to crawl and work in confined spaces such as attics, manholes and crawlspaces.
  • Must be able to read, hear, and understand instructions and warnings.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to get to and from work at various job sites, anywhere within the geographic area that the apprenticeship program covers.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from related instruction classes.
  • Must qualify for interview by obtaining a score of 4 or above on Electrical Trades Aptitude Test, developed and validated by the American Institute for Research.
  • Must take and pass a drug test, at the sponsor’s expense.
  • Must be a one-year resident of Niagara County or a resident of town of Yates, Carlton, Ridgeway, Albion, Gaines, Shelby or Barre in Orleans County.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
