On October 10, 2014 at approximately 12:55 p.m. a 14-year-old male fell approximately 200 feet over the Letchworth Gorge and died from his injuries. The boy was hiking along Trail 1 near the Great Bend Overlook with a friend and an adult. State Parks Police, State Police, State Police Special Operations and Response Team, State Police Aviation, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office as well as other local fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene. Emergency responders rappelled down to the victim. The investigation is ongoing.
