Oneonta, N.Y. – Jessica McLean of Oneonta is now $1,000,000 richer thanks to her boyfriend’s generosity.  Edward Lambright purchased a $5 Cash Deluxe scratch-off ticket as an early Easter present for McLean while shopping at the Hannaford on State Highway 28 in Oneonta. The ticket contained the $1,000,000 winning combination making the Super 8 front desk supervisor an instant millionaire.

“I was speechless when I realized I won the $1,000,000 top prize,” explained McLean.  “It’s really hard to explain.  I immediately signed it and locked it away in our lock box until I could come in and claim it.”

McLean drove to the Lottery’s Schenectady Customer Service Center on March 31 to claim her prize.  “It was a very nervous drive to the office,” she said. “I checked the ticket every day to make sure it was for real.”

McLean chose to receive her prize as one lump sum. She will receive a one-time payment totaling $780,000 before required withholdings. Her net check will total $516,204.

“I haven’t really given much thought to how I’ll spend the money.  For now I’ll pay off some bills and put some into savings for the future.”

McLean is the 39th New Yorker to claim a New York Lottery prize of $1,000,000 or more in 2015.

About the New York Lottery

The New York Lottery continues to be North America’s largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing $3.11 billion in fiscal year 2014-2015 to help support education in New York State.  The Lottery’s contribution represents 14 percent of total state education aid to local school districts.

New York Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education.  It takes into account both a school district’s size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding
