Metro-North Crews to Make Improvements to Upper Hudson Line Weekends of August 17-18 and 24-25

Schedule Changes in Effect to Accommodate Line Upgrade

Metro-North Railroad advises customers that over the next two weekends, August 17-18 and August 24-25, crews will replace switches south of Poughkeepsie and perform rock-slope stabilization near Garrison. The track switch allows trains to move from one track to another and is crucial to operational flexibility. Rock-slope stabilization - removing and securing loose rocks along the right-of-way - is a long-term investment in safe and efficient service.

These infrastructure-improvement projects require two single-track operations for 7 miles between Manitou and Cold Spring and also for 14 miles between Beacon and a track-switch location north of the Poughkeepsie station. As a result, there is reduced service between Poughkeepsie, New Hamburg and Grand Central Terminal for the next two weekends and schedule adjustments for most trains.

The following schedule adjustments will be in effect on August 17-18 and August 24-25:

Grand Central Terminal bound trains:
  • Trains that originate at Poughkeepsie will depart 5 to 7 minutes earlier than times shown in the June 30 timetable. Consult the website, the app or posters in stations for specific departure times
  • The 9:24 a.m., 10:24 a.m. and 3:24 p.m. departures from Poughkeepsie to Grand Central Terminal will not operate
  • The 9:52 a.m., 11:52 a.m., 1:52 p.m., 3:46 p.m., 5:50 p.m., 7:54 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. departures from Poughkeepsie will originate in Beacon, and will not serve Poughkeepsie and New Hamburg. The trains will depart Beacon 5 to 7 minutes earlier than times shown in the June 30 timetable and will make all regularly scheduled stops from Beacon to Grand Central Terminal. Consult the website, the app or posters in stations for specific departure times.
  • There will be a Yankee Clipper train from Poughkeepsie to Yankees/E 153rd St station on Saturday and Sunday, August 17-18, departing Poughkeepsie at 9:05 a.m., stopping at New Hamburg, Beacon, Cold Spring, Garrison, Peekskill, Cortlandt, Croton-Harmon and Tarrytown, and arriving at Yankees/E 153rd St at 10:22 a.m.
  • Local service from Croton-Harmon to Grand Central Terminal is not affected by the trackwork near Poughkeepsie, except that the train that normally departs Croton-Harmon at 5:30 a.m. will depart at 5:26 a.m., 4 minutes earlier, and will stop at all stations 4 minutes earlier en route to Grand Central Terminal.
  • The Yankee Clipper train from Croton-Harmon to Yankees/E 153rd St will operate as normal, departing Croton-Harmon at 11:20 a.m., stopping at Tarrytown and arriving at Yankees/E 153rd St station at 11:56 a.m.
Poughkeepsie bound trains:
  • Most trains, both locals to Croton-Harmon and Poughkeepsie trains, will depart Grand Central Terminal between 4 and 13 minutes earlier than times shown in the June 30 timetable. Consult the website, the app or posters in stations for specific departure times
  • The 4:14 p.m., 5:14 p.m. and 6:14 p.m. departures from Grand Central Terminal to Poughkeepsie will not operate
  • The 7:45 a.m., 9:45 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 1:45 p.m., 3:45 p.m., 5:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. departures from Grand Central Terminal to Poughkeepsie will depart 13 minutes earlier than the times shown in the June 30 timetable and will operate only as far as Beacon; they will not serve New Hamburg and Poughkeepsie.
  • There will be Yankee Clipper trains from Yankees/E 153rd St. to both Croton-Harmon and Poughkeepsie after the afternoon games on Saturday and Sunday, August 17-18.
