|
Hands-on Field Day Connects Students with River and New York Harbor What: The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Hudson River Estuary Program, Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve, and environmental partners will host the 21st annual Day in the Life of the Hudson and Harbor. During the event, an estimated 5,000 elementary school to college students will become scientists for a day, collecting and analyzing scientific data from the field during hands-on exploration of the Hudson River Estuary. Students will participate in "Day in the Life of the Hudson and Harbor" events up and down the river at more than 80 locations from New York City to the Capital Region. When: Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023 Why: The Day in the Life of the Hudson and Harbor gives students the chance to experience the waterways of the Hudson River Estuary, New York Harbor, and Mohawk River firsthand, conduct their own research about these ecosystems, and learn how scientists are working to protect them. This event helps prepare students to become stewards of the tidal Hudson River, a vital natural resource. The Hudson River Estuary Program is funded by the New York State Environmental Protection Fund. Event locations, participating schools, times, and partners:
