Insulation & Asbestos Workers Recruit Apprentices

Rochester, NY (January 21, 2020) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) for Heat & Frost Insulators, Local Union #26, will conduct a recruitment from March 5, 2020 through February 4, 2021 for two Insulation and Asbestos worker apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications must be obtained in person at JATC for Heat & Frost Insulators, Local Union #26, 4348 Culver Road, Suite 3, Rochester, NY, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. No applications are to leave the premises.

A $25.00 testing fee will be required on the day of ‘Success Profile Assessment’ test from each applicant. Please note: This fee may be waived upon request. Fee waivers will be approved upon showing verifiable proof of financial need.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must verbally attest that they are physically able to perform the work required of the trade which may include:
    • Lift 50 lbs. unassisted.
    • Climb ladders and work from heights above 8 feet.
    • Work in confined spaces.
    • Work in cold and hot environments such as coolers below 40 degrees and boiler rooms above 100 degrees.
  • Must have a valid New York State driver’s license. Apprentices may be required to drive company vehicles.
  • Must be able to read, hear and understand verbal instructions and warnings given in English.
  • Must watch a “Realistic Job Preview” video and take a “Success Profile Assessment” test.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from required classes at the approved school.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the USA.
  • Must be willing to attend a minimum of 144 hours of required classroom instruction per year located at the JATC for Heat & Frost Insulators, Local Union #26 Training Center.
  • Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
