MEDIA ADVISORY FOR WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 30

DEC Commissioner Seggos to Report on New York’s Independent Sampling of Hudson River for PCB Contamination

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos will report on the State’s independent sampling of Hudson River sediments to fully assess the extent of remaining PCB contamination. Governor Andrew M. Cuomo directed DEC to fully assess the nature and extent of contamination left behind after six years of dredging to remove PCBs was completed with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency oversight. The State rejects the EPA’s Five-Year Review Report that found the Hudson River dredging remedy will be protective. Commissioner Seggos will join a DEC crew aboard one of three DEC vessels currently on the river performing sediment sampling.
