New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence in Partnership with New York State Office of General Services Holds the New York State Clothesline Project

Tuesday, October 17 to Thursday, October 19

Albany, NY –The New York State Offices for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV) and General Services (OGS) will be hosting the New York State Clothesline Project in the Empire State Plaza Concourse to coincide with the 2023 Domestic Violence Awareness Day, October 19th. The exhibit will feature a display of t-shirts decorated by New York State survivors through words or artwork. The exhibit will serve as an educational tool on the prevalence of domestic violence for the public and provide a platform for survivors to help them break the silence surrounding their abuse.

The original Clothesline Project, organized by a coalition of women’s advocacy groups in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, included 31 shirts displayed on the village green in Hyannis, Massachusetts, as part of an annual "Take Back the Night" March and Rally. Throughout the day, women came forward to create shirts and the line continued to grow.
