STATEMENT FROM THE NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION ON SAND LAND CORP. ENFORCEMENT ACTION

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) takes seriously its responsibility to ensure compliance with State Environmental Conservation Law to protect public health and the environment. DEC continues to be responsive to community concerns raised about activities at Sand Land Corp. located at 585 Middle Line Highway in Bridgehampton in addition to conducting regular inspections of the facility.

On April 18, 2023, DEC issued a Notice of Violation to Sand Land Corporation for noncompliance with the conditions of its 2013 Mined Land Reclamation Permit. Consistent with the Court of Appeals’ Feb. 9, 2023 decision with respect to mines on Long Island, DEC will continue to work with the town of Southampton to ensure any future activities at the Sand Land mine are in conformance with the town’s permissible activities. DEC is continuing to monitor Sand Land for compliance with all applicable laws, policies, and regulations and will take enforcement action if additional violations are found.
