LIRR Announces Revised Ronkonkoma Branch Schedules for This Weekend to Accommodate Track Work

Work Will Also Impact Some Babylon, Montauk, Far Rockaway, West Hempstead & Greenport Trains; Customers Urged to Consult “Special” Weekend Timetables

 

Continuing track work on the Long Island Rail Road between Ronkonkoma and Farmingdale as well as ongoing switch replacement work at Bethpage Interlocking will have a significant impact on the Ronkonkoma Branch over the weekend of Saturday, September 24, and Sunday, September 25. The work will also impact some Babylon, Montauk, Far Rockaway, West Hempstead and Greenport trains.
 
The LIRR has published three Special Timetables, one for the Ronkonkoma Branch, which includes Greenport information, one for the Montauk and Babylon Branches and one for the City Terminal Zone, each providing schedule changes in full detail. The Weekend Track Work Special Timetables can be picked up at any LIRR terminal or branch station and can also be found on the LIRR website at http://web.mta.info/lirr/Timetable/. The schedule changes include cancelations, connection changes, substitute bus service and earlier departure times. Here are the highlights:
 
Ronkonkoma Branch
Saturday, September 24
Westbound
  • Buses replace trains between Ronkonkoma and Hicksville where train service resumes to points west. Customers will board buses up to one hour and 14 minutes earlier than normal.
  • The 10:05 a.m., 11:05 a.m. and 12:05 p.m. trains from Ronkonkoma are canceled.
  • Farmingdale and Bethpage will have normal train service
  • Most trains will depart Farmingdale, Bethpage and Hicksville 30 minutes earlier than normal.
 
Eastbound
  • Trains will travel as far as Hicksville where customers will board buses for service to Bethpage through Ronkonkoma. Customers should expect up to 42 minutes of added travel time.
  • The 12:14 a.m. train from Penn Station will depart 30 minutes later than normal.
  • The 4:42 p.m., 5:42 p.m. and 6:42 p.m. trains from Penn Station are canceled.
 
Sunday, September 25
Westbound
  • From 12 a.m. through 4 p.m., buses will replace trains between Ronkonkoma and Hicksville where customers can resume travel by train to points west.
  • Farmingdale and Bethpage customers will have normal train service until 4 p.m. on Sunday.
  • Most trains will depart Farmingdale, Bethpage and Hicksville 30 minutes earlier than normal
  • From 4 p.m. Sunday until 12:01 a.m. Monday morning, buses will also replace trains at Farmingdale and Bethpage
  • The 10:05 a.m., 11:05 a.m. and 12:05 p.m. trains from Ronkonkoma are canceled.
Eastbound
  • From 12 a.m. through 4 p.m., trains will terminate at Hicksville, where customers can board buses to points east.
  • Farmingdale and Bethpage customers will have normal train service until 4 p.m. on Sunday.
  • From 4 p.m. Sunday until 12 a.m. Monday morning, buses will also replace trains at Farmingdale and Bethpage
  • The 4:42 p.m., 5:42 p.m. and 6:42 p.m. trains from Penn Station are canceled.
 
Travel Tip
To avoid busing and service delays on the Ronkonkoma Branch, customers are encouraged to use the Port Jefferson Branch west of Huntington or the Babylon Branch as alternatives. Both branches are on normal weekend schedules with trains running about every 30 minutes.
 
Weekend Service to Greenport on Saturday and Sunday

Westbound
Greenport trains will depart 30 minutes earlier than normal. Westbound passengers will detrain at Ronkonkoma and board buses for Hicksville where train service will resume. Passengers traveling to stations Central Islip through Bethpage will board a local bus at Ronkonkoma.

Eastbound
Trains scheduled to depart Penn Station for Ronkonkoma at 8:12 a.m. and 1:12 p.m. will instead leave one hour earlier, running as far as Hicksville where customers will detrain for buses to Ronkonkoma where normal train service will resume. Passengers boarding at stations Bethpage through Central Islip will board a local bus for Ronkonkoma to catch the train to Greenport.
 
Montauk & Babylon Branches
Saturday, September 24
Westbound
  • The 1:24 p.m., 5:23 p.m. and 10:23 p.m. trains from Patchogue and the 5:53 p.m. train from Speonk will have different, later connecting trains at Jamaica in route to Woodside and Penn Station, arriving up to 10 minutes later than normal.
Eastbound
  • The 1:10 a.m. train from Jamaica to Montauk, which also stops at Babylon, will run on an adjusted schedule, leaving Jamaica 5 minutes later than normal and arriving at subsequent stops 5 minutes later than normal.
Sunday, September 25
Westbound
  • The 3:30 p.m., 5:35 p.m., 6:37 p.m., 7:33 p.m. and 8:36 p.m. trains from Montauk will have different, later connecting trains at Jamaica arriving up to 16 minutes later than normal. Connections to western terminals have changed as a result.
  • The 1:24 p.m., 5:23 p.m. and 10:23 p.m. trains from Patchogue and the 5:53 p.m. train from Speonk will have different, later connecting trains at Jamaica to Woodside and Penn Station, arriving up to 10 minutes later than normal.
Eastbound
  • The 1:10 a.m. train from Jamaica to Montauk, which also stops at Babylon, will run on an adjusted schedule leaving Jamaica 5 minutes later than normal and arriving at subsequent stops 5 minutes later than normal.
 
City Terminal Zone
Some Babylon, Far Rockaway and West Hempstead branch trains that normally connect to Ronkonkoma trains at Jamaica for travel to Woodside will have different connections.
