DEC ANNOUNCES TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF CROWN POINT CAMPGROUND FISHING PIER ON LAKE CHAMPLAIN

Immediate Closure for Pier in Effect; Remaining Areas of Crown Point Campground and Day Use Area Remain Open for Public Use

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced an immediate, temporary closure of the Fishing Pier located at the Crown Point Campground and Day Use Area in Crown Point, Essex County, due to structural damage to the pier roof.

Out of an abundance of caution to ensure public safety, fishing and walking on the pier will not be allowed while DEC works with a structural engineer to evaluate the infrastructure and any next steps. This closure may continue for the duration of the 2026 season.

The remaining areas of the Crown Point Campground and Day Use Area remain open for public use while the pier is closed. In addition, nearby alternative locations for outdoor recreation include Ausable Point Campground and Day Use Area, Ausable Marsh Wildlife Management area, and many fishing spots along Lake Champlain

DEC will announce the reopening of the Crown Point Fishing Pier once the site is deemed safe for the public. Contact DEC’s Region 5 Ray Brook office at (518) 897-1200 for more information, or visit DEC’s website.
