Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Recruit Apprentices

Buffalo, NY (January 19, 2021) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) for Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, Local Union #3, will conduct a recruitment from March 2, 2021 through March 1, 2022 for one Bricklayer, Mason apprentice, one Pointer, Caulker and Cleaner apprentice, one Tile Setter apprentice, and one Tile, Marble, and Terrazzo Finisher apprentice, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #3, 1175 William Street, Buffalo, NY from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month, excluding holidays, during the recruitment period.

Applicants must pay a $5.00 application processing fee at the time of application. Please note: You may request that this fee be waived. Fee waivers will be approved upon showing verifiable proof of financial need.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a minimum of a 10th grade education.
  • Must sign an affidavit that they are physically able to perform the work required of the trade which may include:
    • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
    • Ability to bend frequently, reach, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Climbing and working from lifts, ladders and scaffolds.
    • Ability to read blueprints and have depth perception to verify alignment of stones, bricks and blocks using a plumb bob.
    • Working in confined spaces and outside in all weather conditions.
  • Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
  • Must be a resident of Allegany, Erie, Niagara, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Orleans, Genesee, or Wyoming County.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work and required classes at the approved school.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
