Robert F. Kennedy Bridge Queens Span Pedestrian Walkway to Close Nightly During May for Maintenance

Beginning Sunday, May 1, 2016, at 9:00 p.m., and nightly through the month of May until 5:00 a.m. each morning, the pedestrian walkway of the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge’s Queens span will be closed.

The nightly closures are necessary for painting and maintenance along the walkway, where rust and corrosion of the steel have accumulated. The work includes blasting under containment to clean the surface areas, followed by primer and painting.

Closure periods will generally be five days a week, weather-dependent, and run from 9:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m. each morning, when the pedestrian walkway will reopen each day.

Signage will be posted to alert the public in advance of the closures, and users of path should plan accordingly and seek an alternate route during closure periods.
