“DEC DOES WHAT?!” PODCAST EPISODE 31 NOW AVAILABLE: HAPPY CAMPERS

Summer Camp Connections, Foundational Environmental Experiences, and Controversial S’mores Techniques

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today released the latest episode of “DEC Does What?!”, the bi-weekly podcast that features conversations with DEC experts about the agency’s wide-ranging efforts to protect New Yorkers and the environment. Episode 31— “Happy Campers”— spotlights DEC’s affordable and fun DEC summer camp offerings and the lifelong bonds they help create.

In the first episode of the podcast’s fourth season, DEC host Sean Mahar, Region 4 Director, returns to join new host Adriana Espinoza, DEC’s Chief of Staff and Deputy Commissioner for Equity and Justice. Listen to Jackson Patterson, DEC Camps Coordinator, discuss what attracts 1,400 children each summer to the State’s week-long sleepaway learning experience. Then, hear the surprising journey of two young Luke Bryan superfans, Aquatic Biologist Samantha Carey and Geologist Emily Barry, who first became childhood friends at Camp Colby and later reunited as part of Team DEC.

Summer camp registration starts on March 22, and many spots fill quickly. Learn more here.

All episodes of “DEC Does What?!” are available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, Amazon Music, and all major podcast platforms.
