Fort Edward Man Wins $10,000,000 Lottery Scratch-off Prize

Seventy-three-year-old Dale Farrand of Fort Edward is Washington County’s newest Lottery millionaire.  The lucky Lottery player won his $10,000,000 prize on a $350,000,000 Cash Spectacular scratch-off ticket.  He purchased his multi-million dollar winner while buying some treats for his dog.

“I went into the Cumberland Farms to buy some Slim Jim’s for my dog Boots and decided to buy a ticket,” explained Farrand.  “I scratched it in the car and started shaking when I realized I won.”

Farrand drove straight home to show the ticket to his wife.  “I rolled down the window and asked her to check the ticket for me.  She was a lot more excited than I was.”

Farrand will receive his prize as a one-time lump-sum payment.  He will receive a net check totaling $6,718,000 after required withholdings.

“I’ll use the money to pay off the mortgage and help out our children and grandchildren,” explained Farrand.  “We’ll also use some of it for home improvements.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Cumberland Farms at 179 Broadway in Fort Edward.

About the New York Lottery

The New York Lottery continues to be North America’s largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing $3.37 billion in fiscal year 2017-2018 to help support education in New York State. The Lottery’s contribution represents approximately 13 percent of total state education aid to local school districts.

New York Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education. It takes into account both a school district’s size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.
