OGS ANNOUNCES FREE EVENING FITNESS CLASSES THIS SUMMER AT THE EMPIRE STATE PLAZA

Tuesday And Thursday Classes Start June 4 at Cornerstone at the Plaza

Fitness at the Plaza is Sponsored by Highmark Blue Shield

New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner Jeanette Moy today announced the June 4 start of the popular and free Summer Fitness at the Plaza program presented by Highmark Blue Shield.

Fitness at the Plaza classes are free and open to individuals of all ages, regardless of fitness level or experience. The classes take place from 5 to 6 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday through August 29, with no classes held the week of July 4.

“The free fitness classes OGS has offered since 2017 bring the state workforce and our neighbors in the community together to focus on their well-being while enjoying a fun workout at the Empire State Plaza,” Commissioner Moy said. “We want to thank Highmark Blue Shield for their generous sponsorship and the fitness instructors, Katie from the Hot Yoga Spot and Anzala from Three Six Night Fit Zumba, for making it fun for everybody to stay active and healthy this summer.”

“We are thrilled to kick off our eighth summer of Fitness at the Plaza, with our long-time partners at the Office of General Services,” said Nicky Chlopecki, manager, community affairs for Highmark Blue Shield. “Highmark Blue Shield believes that everyone deserves access to affordable and convenient fitness options, and we are proud to offer this program right in the heart of downtown Albany to help our community members stay active and healthy.”

Classes

Tuesdays: Pilates Fusion with the Hot Yoga Spot

This class is a series of movements that incorporate the principles of Pilates, Barre, and Boot Camp exercises for a fun and challenging workout. Tone the whole body and get your heart rate up while working your core, arms, legs, and glutes. After you sweat it out and feel the burn, classes will conclude with a blissful stretch to send you on your way for the rest of the week. After graduating from the Tisch School of Arts at New York University, where she studied dance, instructor Katie trained at the Kane School in Manhattan and found a passion for yoga and barre classes, eventually obtaining her barre certification through Booty Barre. Kattie’s classes focus on alignment and working hard while feeling playful and fun. Expect to sweat and smile.

Thursdays: Zumba with Anzala

Zumba combines cardio, muscle conditioning, and a mix of low- and high-intensity dance moves that offer a fun fitness program. Considered an “exercise in disguise,” Zumba offers a total body workout while dancing to Latin and international rhythms. Participants will enjoy a calorie-burning workout led by Anzala, who is full of energy and will transform the class into a dance party. All fitness levels are welcome, and no experience is necessary. Anzala is a licensed Zumba instructor and an active member of the Zumba Instructor Network.  Anzala specializes in Zumba Basic and Zumba Specialty.

All participants will be required to sign a waiver to participate. People are encouraged to pre-register at www.empirestateplaza.ny.gov to sign the waiver in advance and to be contacted regarding any updates to the schedule. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Class participants must bring their own exercise mats, water bottles, and towels. No equipment will be provided.
