BRIAN SETZER’S ROCKABILLY RIOT! TO HEADLINE NEW YORK STATE’S ANNUAL FOOD FESTIVAL ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 7

Full day of food, drink, and free entertainment

New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner RoAnn Destito today announced the lineup for the annual New York State Food Festival, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7 at the Empire State Plaza in Albany and feature a performance by Brian Setzer’s Rockabilly Riot!

“Our annual food festival at the Empire State Plaza pairs a wide variety of delicious food and beverages with an exciting lineup of entertainment, including this year’s featured performance by Brian Setzer’s Rockabilly Riot!” Commissioner Destito said. “This is our most flavorful and one of our most popular events of the summer, and I want to thank all our vendors and sponsors for their support of this special festival.”

The festival will begin with the popular Plaza farmers market, offering locally grown fruits and vegetables, along with breads, pastries, and many other specialty items. The entertainment will begin at noon with a lunchtime performance by the Troy Music Academy.

Be sure to catch lunch, dinner, or both at one of dozens of food vendors who will be serving up a wide variety of delicious international and domestic fare, from Guyanese, Greek, South American, Cuban, Lebanese, and Jamaican cuisine to wood-fired pizza and crepes. There will be something to satisfy most everyone’s palate.

Repeat festival-goers will see several of their favorite food vendors returning this year and will have an opportunity to try the culinary creations prepared by vendors who are new to the Plaza, including Goodway Bakery, Let it Roll, Needi Snacks, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Riverside Maple Farms, and Teas n’ Tapas.

Although alcoholic beverages purchased in the festival’s outstanding products of New York tent are not for consumption on site, there will be a NYS tap tent where adults with proper identification will be able to purchase and consume New York State beers, wines, and ciders, including Saranac Blueberry Blonde Ale, Druthers All-In IPA, Brooklyn Summer Ale, Ommegang Rare Vos, Bad Seed Cider, and Heron Hill Winery Riesling, Chardonnay, and Gamebird Red.

Those attending the event will be entertained by an exciting lineup of musical acts, headlined by Brian Setzer’s Rockabilly Riot! Iconic guitarist, songwriter, vocalist and 3-time Grammy-award-winner Setzer is a musician's musician, credited with continually taking chances with innovative and daring musical styles, while single-handedly resurrecting two forgotten genres of music — rockabilly in the ’80s and swing in the ’90s. Along the way, he has scored chart-topping hits, sold 13 million records and received the Orville H. Gibson Lifetime Achievement Award throughout his decorated career as founder/leader of the Stray Cats, his 19-piece Brian Setzer Orchestra, and as a solo artist.

Music on the festival’s main stage will start cooking at 5 p.m. with a performance by Lara Hope and the Ark-Tones, New York’s premier roots rock n’ roll, rockabilly, and rhythm & Blues outfit. Next to hit the main stage will be Grammy-nominated blues artists, The James Hunter Duo. Over the span of 30 years, Hunter has worked on the railway, busked in the streets of London, provided backup vocals and guitar for Van Morrison, and played clubs and theaters all over the world.
