Fishing on the Ashokan Reservoir

 

Who:              DEC Commissioner Joseph Martens

                       NYC Deputy Commissioner, Bureau of Water Supply, Paul Rush

 

What:             DEC Commissioner Martens and NYC DEP Deputy Commissioner Rush will fish on the Ashokan Reservoir from the shore and by boat to
highlight the great fishing opportunities in the Catskill Region and on NYC DEP Reservoirs. Reporters are invited to join in on the angling adventure.

 

Where:           Meet at the “Frying Pan” parking lot off Rte 28 A in the town of Olive.
Directions to the “Frying Pan”: 
Take exit 19 off NYS Thruway, take Route 28 west (toward Pine Hill). 15 miles to Winchell’s Corners (Winchell’s Pizza, Moose Crossing store and old church at intersection). Turn left on Reservoir Road (right if you are coming from the west on Route 28), cross bridge over reservoir, turn left on Monument Road, bear left at fork onto Route 28A. Proceed 1 mile, look for small sign indicating Frying Pan access road on left.

 

When:            Tuesday, June 2, 2:00 p.m. (in the event of rain, the event will still be held, but not if thunderstorms are forecast)

 

Details on Fishing Event: Reporters and guests will be able to sign up for a NYC DEP recreational access permit on site. If you’d like to fish, a NYS fishing license is needed. Go to www.licensecenter.ny.gov to purchase a license online. A limited number of boats and equipment will be available. Please bring personal flotation devices and fishing gear if you have them.
