NYS Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and NYS Office of General Services to Host 2024 NYS Clothesline Project

Tuesday, October 15 to Thursday, October 19

Albany, NY - October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and to honor survivors and their journey to healing and safety, the NYS Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV), in partnership with the NYS Office of General Services (OGS), will host the 2024 New York State Clothesline Project at the Empire State Plaza Concourse. The exhibit will feature a display of t-shirts decorated by New York State Survivors through words or artwork. The exhibit will serve as an educational tool on the prevalence of domestic violence for the public and provide a platform for survivors to help them break the silence surrounding their abuse.

The Clothesline Project began in 1990 in Hyannis, Massachusetts. Wanting to bring attention to violence against women by intimate partners, a coalition of women’s advocacy groups displayed 31 shirts on the village green as part of an annual “Take Back the Night” March and rally. Throughout the day, women came forward to create shirts and the line continued to grow.
