Hugh L. Carey Tunnel Closed Sunday, Sept. 30 for the Annual Stephen Siller Tunnels to Towers Run |
|
There will be a full closure of the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel on Sunday, September 30 from 7:45 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. for the 17th annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run, commemorating the FDNY firefighter’s run through the tunnel to the World Trade Center on 9/11. Event preparations will take place overnight, with one tube of the tunnel closed from 10 p.m. Saturday, September 29 through 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, September 30. One lane will remain open in each direction in the remaining tube during this time. Additionally, beginning at 7 a.m. on Sunday, access to the Manhattan-bound HLC from local streets in Brooklyn will be blocked and motorists will only have access via the Gowanus Expressway. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route. The charity run/walk begins on the streets in Red Hook, goes through the tunnel and ends across from the World Trade Center site. The Tunnel to Towers Run retraces Firefighter Stephen Siller’s footsteps and honors those who died on 9/11. Motorists can sign up for MTA e-mail or text alerts at www.mta.info for the latest information on this planned work. |
