Whiteface Lake Placid Winter Challenge is Now Underway

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- Once every four years the world comes together to watch the best athletes on the planet compete and challenge one another in their quest for winter Olympic glory. Here in Lake Placid, N.Y., the public can test their skills in the Whiteface Lake Placid Winter Challenge from Feb. 6-23.

In Lake Placid, known worldwide as the “Winter Sports Capital of the World,” the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) is bringing you the chance to try all your favorite Olympic winter sports and compete with your friends and family for a chance to build memories and win a few prizes.

The Winter Challenge activities are alpine racing, biathlon, bobsled, cross country skiing, curling, figure skating, hockey, luge, museum trivia, skeleton, ski jumping and speed skating.

Compete in just one or all activities and show off your results on the special edition Winter Challenge scorecard. Upon completion of your triumphant athletic performance, turn in your scorecard at the ORDA Store on Main St., in Lake Placid, for official Winter Challenge prizes.

The gold medal winners are the participants who complete 10 activities. They will also claim two Whiteface Mountain lift tickets, a Winter Challenge t-shirt and a commemorative pin.

The silver medalists need to complete six or more activities and will take home a Winter Challenge t-shirt and a commemorative pin.

Those who attempt at least three activities will come away with a bronze award, a Winter Challenge commemorative pin.
