30 Players Invited to 2013 U.S. Women's National Under-18 Evaluation Camp

LAKE PLACID, N.Y.  - USA Hockey has announced the 30 players that have been invited to the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Evaluation Camp, Aug. 13-18, in Lake Placid, N.Y. The players will be auditioning for spots on the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team that will take part in the 2013 Under-18 Series vs. Canada, Aug. 22-25, in Lake Placid. The 22-player roster will be announced on Aug. 19 with practice sessions starting that day.         

A full on-ice schedule is listed below. Players will be split into two teams (blue and white) for the duration of camp and all on-ice sessions are open to the public.

Of the 30 players attending, Sydney Baldwin (Shorewood/Minn.), Taylar Cianfarano (Oswego, N.Y.), Maddie Rolfes (West Des Moines, Iowa) Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Conn.), Taylor Williamson (Edina, Minn.) and Grace Zarzecki (Chicago, Ill.) were members of the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Evaluation Camp last year that advanced to the Under-18 Series vs. Canada.

In addition to Baldwin, Cianfarano, Rolfes, and Zarzecki, Kenzie Kent (Norwell, Mass.), Lexie Laing (Marblehead, Mass.), Maliya Rodgers (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Baylee Wellhausen (Williams Bay, Wis.) helped the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team collect the silver medal this past January at the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation Women's Under-18 World Championship in Heinola, Finland.

Reagan Carey (Colorado Springs, Colo.), USA Hockey's director of women's hockey, is serving as the general manager of Team USA at the 2013 Under-18 Series against Canada and the 2014 IIHF Women's Under-18 World Championship ... Jeff Kampersal (Pennington, N.J.), head women's ice hockey coach at Princeton University, is the head coach of the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team for the 2013-14 season ... The assistant coaches are Courtney Kennedy (Somerville, Mass.), associate women's ice hockey coach at Boston College and Katie Lachapelle (Winthrop, Mass.), assistant women's ice hockey coach at Boston University. The Under-18 Series is a three-game competition vs. Canada that began in 2007. Over the course of those six years, the United States has an 8-10 record. The IIHF Women's Under-18 World Championship is scheduled to be played for the seventh time and will include teams from Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Japan, Russia, Sweden, and the United States. The dates and location of the tournament will be announced at a later date. Team USA captured gold in each of the first two years of the tournament (2008, 2009) and again in 2011 and the silver medal in 2010, 2012 and 2013.

Sunday, Aug. 18, Team Blue vs. Team White 6 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 22, Team USA vs. Team Canada 4 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 23, Team USA vs. Team Canada 4 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 25, Team USA vs. Team Canada 10 a.m.
