Municipalities Encouraged to Apply for Environmental Bond Act Funding to Advance Major Stormwater Management Projects The New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation today announced the application period is open for $45 million in available Green Resiliency Grant funding. Municipalities are invited to apply for grants of up to $10 million for stormwater management projects that mitigate flooding and protect water quality. This announcement underscores Governor Kathy Hochul’s and EFC’s continued commitment to protecting New Yorkers from extreme weather, safeguarding the environment, and providing municipalities with resources to modernize critical systems without overburdening local ratepayers. “Governor Hochul’s grant commitments are helping communities advance crucial projects that will help protect New Yorkers from increasingly intense storms without putting undue burden on household budgets that are already stretched thin,” EFC President and CEO Maureen A. Coleman said. “Governor Hochul has demonstrated her commitment to affordable clean water over and over again, championing the Environmental Bond Act funding that made today’s announcement possible, delivering a $3.75 billion clean water investment plan in this year’s State Budget, and building on over $10 billion provided to drinking water, sewer, and stormwater projects since 2021.” Application materials and resources are available at efc.ny.gov, where municipalities can also request no-cost technical assistance through EFC’s Community Assistance Teams. Applications are due by 4 p.m. on Jan. 29. Governor Hochul announced the first installment of the 2026 Green Resiliency Grant awards as part of an $80 million investment in September. Funding was awarded to projects in New York City, the City of Long Beach on Long Island, and Lewis County in the Adirondack Foothills. The Governor’s announcement also included $16.8 million through the Green Innovation Grant Program for eight projects from Buffalo to Westchester County using nature-based solutions to mitigate flooding or improve water efficiency. EFC has awarded over $400 million through its green grant programs to strengthen the resiliency of water systems statewide. Green investments mitigate flooding impacts, improve water quality, lower urban heat effects, and support community revitalization. Green Resiliency Grants are funded by the Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act of 2022, a historic $4.2 billion investment in New York’s environment, resilience, and economy. Nation-Leading Investments in Water Infrastructure Under Governor Hochul, New York State continues to increase its historic investments in water infrastructure. The SFY27 budget announced by Governor Hochul sets the national standard with a transformational $3.75 billion water infrastructure investment plan, building on $10.6 billion committed to clean water infrastructure projects since 2021. New Yorkers can track projects benefiting from EFC’s investments using the interactive project impact dashboard. |
