New York State Council on the Arts Supports Saratoga Arts’ Community Arts Grants, Providing $125,000 for Cultural Projects in Fulton, Montgomery and Saratoga Counties

Saratoga Arts Hosts Grant Awards Reception Thursday, April 4

New York—The New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) is pleased to announce 37 grants totaling $125,010 to individual artists and cultural organizations to support projects taking place in Fulton, Montgomery and Saratoga counties in 2019 awarded by the agency’s regrant partner Saratoga Arts.

Through NYSCA’s Decentralization (DEC) program, NYSCA funding supports Saratoga Arts’ Community Arts Grants program. These grants offer year-round opportunities to experience a wide array of free or low-cost artistic events highlighting talented local and regional artists. An estimated 24,000 community members, 5,600 youth, and 1,600 artists will directly participate in these grant-funded events occurring throughout 2019.

Saratoga Arts will host a reception for the 2019 grantees Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM featuring a performance by storyteller Kay Loan of the Mohawk Nation, Wolf Clan.

Saratoga Arts is one of 27 regional arts councils and centers partnering with NYSCA through the DEC program to regrant NYSCA funds to support local arts and culture. DEC ensures that state funding reaches all 62 counties across geographically, economically, and ethnically diverse segments of the state's population. These sites serve as advocates and catalysts for cultural development at the local level and support community programs, individual artists and arts educators.

For 2019, NYSCA has awarded DEC partners a total of $3.8 million to support regrant programs. These grants help expand the agency’s reach to a total of 2,400 grants, including 1,100 direct grants and 1,300 regrants. A complete list of NYSCA DEC sites is available at https://www.arts.ny.gov/decentralization-regrant-programs.

DEC is administered through NYSCA’s State & Local Partnerships Program, one of 15 grant programs supporting the visual, performing, media and literary arts as well as arts education across New York State. In 2019, NYSCA awarded a total of $51 million to arts organizations and artists through the agency’s 15 programs as well the Regional Economic Development Council initiative and the Mid-Size Capital Project Fund.
