***MEDIA ADVISORY***

Park Police to Conduct Simulated Active Shooter Training during the Week of April 24th and 25th at Saratoga Spa State Park

New York State Park Police will conduct a simulated Active Shooter training exercise on April 24th and 25th at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC). Training will focus on coordination and emergency response during several simulated scenarios envisioning an active shooter.

The public should be advised that a noticeable increase in police presence will be visible throughout the exercises near SPAC inside Saratoga Spa State Park which begin on April 24th at 1PM, and ending at 1PM on April 25th

The entire fenced-in area of SPAC will be closed to the public. All area traffic will be alerted to the exercises at all entry points into the park. Weapons used during training exercises are incapable of firing a live duty round.

All media interested in observing a portion of the training and conducting interviews with law enforcement will be welcome Thursday, April 25th from 10AM – 12PM.

All interested media are asked to RSVP through the contact above so that accommodations may be made.

At the training, park police officers will be provided new kits that will be carried in police vehicles containing a ballistic helmet and ballistic plates for use during an active shooter situation. The equipment provides a higher level of protection against a rifle round. Park Police routinely plan, design, schedule and conduct these trainings at various venues throughout the state.
