LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- On Wednesday evening, Sept. 13, Lake Placid, N.Y., joined other U.S. Olympic host cities, Squaw Valley, Calif. and St. Louis, Mo., in celebration of Los Angeles, Calif. being awarded the 2028 Olympic Games. The official announcement was made earlier today during the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Lima, Peru. The famed Olympic Center, home to the “Miracle on Ice,” and the 1980 Olympic Cauldron were illuminated in the colors of LA’s iconic sunsets, while the marque displayed the LA 2028 logo to mark the return of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to the City of Angels. Los Angeles has twice hosted the Olympic Games, 1932 and 1984. It will become the first American city to host the Olympic Games since the 2002 winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. ORDA operates Whiteface, Belleayre and Gore Mountain ski areas; the Olympic Sports Complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg; the Olympic speed skating oval, Olympic jumping complex and Olympic arena. As host to international and national championships, the Authority has brought millions of athletes, spectator and participants to the region, resulting in significant economic development. |
