Window Cleaners Recruit Apprentices

New York, NY (November 3, 2017) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Window Cleaning Division of Local Union 32BJ will conduct a recruitment from December 4, 2017 through December 15, 2017 for 50 multi-story window and building surface cleaner apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications must be obtained in person at Local Union 32BJ, 25 West 18th Street, 4th Floor, New York, NY, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications must be completed and submitted on-site, on the same day they are received.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old. Proof will be required after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). Proof will be required after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must sign a statement indicating that they are physically able to perform the work of the trade, which may include:
  • Working outside, at heights, attached to a window cleaning safety belt.
  • Working off of scaffolds at heights of 500 feet or more.
  • Climbing and working off of extension ladders.
  • Setting up and taking down sectional ladders.
  • Raising and lowering davits for suspended scaffolds.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various work sites and related instruction classes.
  • Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
