Boilermakers Recruit Apprentices

Albany, NY (May 10, 2018) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Boilermakers Northeast, Local Union #5, Zone #197, will conduct a recruitment from June 5, 2018 through May 7, 2019 for 5 boilermaker (construction) apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained from Boilermakers Northeast JATC, Local Union #5, Zone #197, 75 South Dove Street, Albany, NY, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Detailed information is available on the Boilermakers Northeast JATC website: www.neaac.net

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old. Proof of age will be required when the applicant is presented with a bona fide offer or at the time of registration.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). Proof of age will be required when the applicant is presented with a bona fide offer or at the time of registration.
  • Must attest on a signed affidavit that they are physically able to do the work of a boilermaker, which may include:
    • Must be able to work 8 hours continually on feet.
    • Must be able to lift and carry weights in excess of 95 pounds for extended periods.
    • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions and temperatures.
    • Must be able to work in restrictive and confined spaces.
    • Must be able to work in heights of 20 feet on a scaffold or platform.
    • Must be able to work in ditches or trenches up to 20 feet in depth.
  • Must pass a drug/alcohol test, at the expense of the sponsor, at the time of the offer of employment.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from remote job sites and related instruction classes.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
