Hands-on Field Day Connects Students with River and New York Harbor The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) Hudson River Estuary Program, Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve, and environmental partners will host an estimated 5,000 elementary school to college students as they become scientists for a day, collecting and analyzing scientific data from the field during hands-on exploration of the Hudson River Estuary. Students will participate in the 23rd annual "Day in the Life of the Hudson and Harbor" event up and down the river at more than 100 locations from New York City to the Capital Region and beyond. When: Today, Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Where: Corning Preserve, Quay St, Albany, NY 12207 Why: The Day in the Life of the Hudson and Harbor gives students the chance to experience the waterways of the Hudson River Estuary, New York Harbor, and Mohawk River firsthand, conduct their own research about these ecosystems, and learn how scientists are working to protect them. This event helps prepare students to become stewards of the tidal Hudson River, a vital natural resource. The Hudson River Estuary Program is funded by the New York State Environmental Protection Fund. |
